KeepMeAwake

A tiny menu-bar app that keeps your Mac awake for as long as you need — then quietly lets it sleep again.

What it does

☕️

Pick a duration

15 min, 30 min, 1–4 hours, 8 hours, or “until turned off.”

⏱️

Live countdown

A timer in the menu bar shows exactly how much awake-time is left.

🌙

Auto sleep again

When the timer ends, normal sleep behavior returns automatically.

🔒

Private & lightweight

No accounts, no network, no tracking. Just an Apple power assertion.

Installing

  1. Download & unzip. Double-click KeepMeAwake.zip to get KeepMeAwake.app, then drag it into your Applications folder.
  2. Open it the first time. Right-click (or Control-click) the app and choose Open, then confirm Open in the dialog. You only need to do this once.
  3. Use it. A ☕️ / 🌙 icon appears in your menu bar. Click it and choose how long to stay awake.
“KeepMeAwake can’t be opened” or “is damaged”? This app is free and not notarized through Apple’s paid program, so macOS Gatekeeper is cautious. The right-click → Open step above usually clears it. If it still won’t open, run this once in Terminal to remove the quarantine flag:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/KeepMeAwake.app

Launch at login (optional)

Want it always ready? Go to System Settings → General → Login Items, click +, and add KeepMeAwake.
